The New You

Lesson Objective: The point of the lesson is that your students would grasp the concept of their "new self" in Christ, and commit to embracing God's call to righteousness and holiness.

Scripture Focus: Ephesians 4:17-24

Overview: When we think about the teenagers live in each day, with its constant emphasis on image, consumerism, and sexuality, it's amazing what an incredible impact they can make by living as God desires them to.While Scripture is unmistakable in its call for us to verbally testify to Christ's truth, your students have the power to make a profound statement about Christ's presence in their lives through their actions and attitudes.  In Ephesians, Paul helps us understand that we have been given a "new self," through our faith in Christ.  This "new self" is "created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness."  This is the power teenagers have to impact their world!  They literally have the power of God compelling them to live lives of righteousness and holiness.  And considering the culture in which teenagers mucht live every day, this is one of the most powerful tools they have to show peple the difference Christ can make in an individual's live.

Youth Ministry Prayer Guide

This prayer guide is a great way to keep parents up to speed with what’s happening in the youth ministry, while also giving them the opportunity to pray for you, your students, and the youth ministry as a whole.
Here are a few suggestions to help you put together a prayer guide of your own:
  • Use pictures from your youth ministry. You’ll want to make sure you have parents’ permission to use any pictures of their child(ren) in the prayer guide.
  • Have other parents contribute to the parent devotional. This gets parents involved and gives them ownership over the prayer guide. It also may help them get excited to share the prayer guide with others in the church that may not be involved in the youth ministry. One word of caution here, empower one or two parents to oversee the prayer guide project. Entrust them to come up with the topics and guidelines for the prayer guide. Otherwise, each parent may have their own “great idea” that may not line up with the overall goal of the prayer guide.
  • Get your senior pastor involved. If you can get your senior pastor’s involvement, there’s more of an opportunity to share the prayer devotional with the entire church and have them praying for your youth ministry as well. If possible, encourage a few of your parents to share with the church the impact that the prayer guide had on their family.
Again, these are just some suggestions that may help you in not just putting together your prayer guide, but also helping adults in your church consistently pray for your youth ministry.
